Seeds from Seedy Sunday
Seed sowing time has come! I love this time of year, what will I grow? Is there something new to try? I fancy having a go with some cucumelons, if any one has any seeds they’re like to swap? Today I was in the green house, the sun shining in, seed packets laid out, Shaun Keaveny on the radio. Heaven! I’ve started off with several varieties of peas, Joe’s long chilli peppers, basil and for the bees Cerinthe major, Cosmos. At the beginning of February I volunteered to help out at the seed swapping frenzy that is Seedy Sunday in Brighton. By swapping seeds with fellow gardeners you can help protect local biodiversity as well as rebel against the supply chain of seed coming from just a handful of large companies. Its a fab event with loads of advice and great talks by experts. This years highlight for me was the incredibly knowledgeable Dave Goulson talking about his book Garden Jungle. It was also a great opportunity to meet other members of BHOGG Brighton and Hove Organic Gardening Group and chat about our allotment plans. A huge thank you to Infinity foods for my very generous goody bag for helping out too!
